Copywriting Questionaire

In order to understand your needs and desired end results, which is of course Copy that works … these are the questions I will ask you to answer.

  1. Describe in two sentences (or less) what your company does. 
  1. What do you want people to do when they visit your site? What is your primary value proposition? What makes you THE choice in your niche? 
  1. What is your core offer? Describe the product or explain the process.
  1. What are the primary emotional benefits that have tended to resonate the most with your customers? How are your customers’ lives improved by using your product or service? What problem does it solve?
  1. What are the primary analytical points, case studies, or figures that have prompted a “wow” response?
  1. What aspect of your pitch has been, in your opinion, the most effective at selling customers on your business?
  1. What makes you special above all others?
  1. Can you back this up?
  1. What are the primary problems and challenges customers come to you to solve?
  1. Who is your target audience? Are there any distinctive customer segments you are targeting that differ from each other?
  1. What does your “bread and butter” customer look like at this point in your business? What does your ideal customer of the future look like?
  1. Who is your ideal customer?
  1. What is the main goal of this copy?
  1. What do you want people to do after reading your copy?
  1. What sort of copy do you like?
  • Conversational?  
  • Formal? 
  • Professional? 
  • Funny? 
  • Light-hearted? 
  • Authoritative?
  1. What don’t you like about your existing copy?  
  1. Share some examples of copy you like, or aspire to

 (can be anything…not necessarily from your industry.)

  1. Do you have direct competitors that you are wanting to outperform?
  1. How are you better than your competitors?
  1. In addition to direct competitors, are there any alternative options your potential customers are considering? 
  1. How are you better than those alternatives?
  1. How do people typically find your website? Name all traffic sources that make up 15% or more of incoming traffic.
  1. What sort of tone and brand image do you wish to project?
  1. Are there any businesses that you want to emulate in some way?
  1. What is your favorite thing about your business?
  1. What is your favourite thing about your current customers?
  1. How many people will be involved in providing feedback on my copywriting?
  1. Is there anything else you feel I should know while writing your copy?
